Film celebration of young and, independent artists from Eastern Europe

ABOUT THE REVIEW

INDEPENDEASTaims to showcase the original work of artists influenced by diverse cultures that have intersected in this part of the world for centuries.

The Festival’s main goal is to exclusively accept films from amateur filmmakers aged 15 to 30, without any film education, residing in the Eastern part of Europe, somewhere between the Vistula and the Urals, the Baltic Sea and the Mediterranean Sea.

The first edition is open to young creators from the Podlaskie, Warmian-Masurian, Lublin, Świętokrzyskie, Subcarpathian Voivodeships, and also Lithuania.

The final of this year’s Festival will take place on September 6, 2024, in Suwałki.

Awards:
1st place – prize of 1000 €
2nd place – prize of 600 €
3rd place – prize of 300 €

 

Submission deadline: August 25, 2024 r.

 

Selected films will be featured on the KINEJO streaming film platform along with a documentary made during the Festival.

JURY

Rasa Rimickaitė

She is a cultural studies scholar, theater scholar, translator, and cultural activist. From 2012 to 2016, she served as the Cultural Attaché of the Republic of Lithuania Embassy in the Republic of Poland. After a short break in 2016, Rasa Rimickaitė returned to the position of Cultural Attaché of Lithuania in Poland and held this position until September 1, 2024.

She completed her studies in Lithuanian philology and theater studies at Vilnius University, then continued her studies at the School of Social Sciences at the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw. Then she conducted cultural studies classes for European Studies and Baltic Philology students at the University of Warsaw, and worked at Polish Radio. She is a prime mover and patron of numerous initiatives promoting Lithuanian culture and literature in Poland, actively supporting cooperation between Polish, Lithuanian, and Jewish creative communities.

Adam Bobik

He is a Polish television and film actor from Podlasie, a graduate of the Warsaw Film School. Selected filmography: “Samo Swoi. Początek”, “Tonia”, “Bliscy”. Bobik has also successfully appeared in TV series such as “Minuta ciszy”, “Camera Cafe. Nowe parzenie”, “Król”, “The Office pl”.

In 2016, the actor was honored with the Piotr Łazarkiewicz Young Talent Award at the Polish Film Festival in Los Angeles for his appearance in the short film “Mały palec” directed by Tomasz Cichon. He has been nominated three times for the Jan Machulski Polish Independent Cinema Award in 2015, 2016, and 2019.

Anita Piotrowska

She is a film critic and columnist for “Tygodnik Powszechny” magazine, co-author of books on film, and a columnist for “Charaktery” magazine. She also writes for “Ekran” and “Kino” magazines. She works for the Krakow Film Festival, where she serves as the curator of the documentary program. As a member of FIPRESCI, she has been a jury member at numerous festivals in Poland and abroad. She has received awards for film criticism from the Polish Film Institute (2014) and ZAIKS (2021).
